Most of the sitcoms of today aren’t filmed in front of a
live studio audience
Instead,
they’re filmed and a laugh track is provided
for all the key moments
to give the viewer the illusion
of laughter

Many of those laugh tracks that are still used today
are from the glory days of television
from I Love Lucy and
The Honeymooners
from the Jack Benny show and
Burns and Allen
from Sid Caeser and Your Show of Shows
and from Mr. Television himself
Milton Berle

All of those people, the stars and the audience alike
are either already dead or very close to it
Yet,
the laughter they provided lives on,
a dead audience providing the laughter
for a live television show
Call me crazy,
But that’s fuckin’ weird
