Simply put, the RIAA hates Napster because we are able to sample music before we buy it!
Before mp3s were easily obtained, many people would hear a few songs that they liked on the radio by a certain artist, and then pick up the album. This was great for the record companies because they only needed to put, at most, 3 good songs on any given album. People would blindly pay for more than 10 tracks that sucked. The RIAA is pissed off because they are no longer able to dupe us into buying crap!
