Wihtgar was of the West Saxon race and came to Britain with his brother Stuff in the year of our lord 514.
Their uncles were the noble Cerdic and Cynric who came and conquered the Isle of Wight in the year 530 and four years later entrusted the government of their conquest to their nephew Wihtgar.
Wihtgar died in the year 544 and was buried at Carisbrook.
