In Book 1 (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone or Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone depending on whether you have the British or American edition), Hermione corrects Ron Weasley's pronunciation, saying that it is pronounced "Wing-gar-dium Levi-o-sa, make the 'gar' nice and long." After class, Ron complains about how bossy she is, and she responds by running off to the bathroom and crying, leading to the scene where Harry and Ron save her from a troll in the bathroom, using the same spell to levitate the troll's club.
