The Xeric Award is a grant given to independent comic book creators based in North America, to help cover the costs of self-publishing. Set up by Peter Laird, co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The grant, usually less than $5000, can only be used to cover the costs of the physical production and distribution of the comic (e.g. printing, colour separation, etc) and not the creator's general living costs.
