Code name for the updated OpenStep class framework, updated by Apple for use in Rhapsody and Mac OS X. Recent improvements include better document management and more UI widgets such as hierarchical displays. Implemented in Objective-C; also allows subclassing in Java and intermixing of C and C++. Applications can be deployed on Rhapsody/Mac OS X as well as Windows.

Yellow Box is now called Cocoa. Mac Developers may not take to it straight away, because they can more easily port their apps to Mac OS X with Carbon. However, Apple say that Cocoa is so great that eventually everybody will want to write for it. But then, they would say that.
