The
air kiss is the favoured greeting of those classes of
moneyed women found in fashionable
urban centres of the western world.
A "kiss" which does not actually involve any lips-to-skin contact, is elaborately aimed at each cheek of the receiving party, accompanied with the giver's preferred sound effect (commonly MMMWAH! MMMWAH!).
The air kiss is invariably followed by the words "oh darling! you look marvelous!". And then lunch is served.
