A metallic hydride that is synthesized from aluminum and hydrogen at very high temperatures, or from the partial decomposition of lithium aluminum hydride. It is a solid at room temperature, but decomposes at 150 deg C to aluminum and hydrogen. Because of this, aluminum hydride is currently being studied as a high-energy solid rocket fuel.
