The quintessential example of the American legal system run dangerously amok. Apparently it is now possible for animals to bring lawsuits against humans -- for instance, pets against their owners, or a class-action lawsuit of deer against hunters. The movement is patterned after environmental law and the concept that many times, humans harm other things that have no conventional way of defending themselves, so some other human has to represent the interests of the injured parties. So next time you scold your puppy for pooping on the carpet, be prepared for an animal lawyer to show up on your doorstep with a defamation lawsuit. And don't even think of giving her anything but Evian bottled water, otherwise you'll probably get a mistreatment charge added to that suit.
