The modern HBO television series Game of Thrones and the book series from which it is adapted, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin, draws extensively on the War of the Roses for inspiration. In this series, the character Cersei Lannister states, "When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die."
