A line in space through which a beam of some sort is expected to go in
an experiment. Usually deals with particles in accelerators
such as CERN's, or with the things you bounce off mirrors when
dealing with lasers. In many particle accelerators, a beam
``line'' is actually curved. This has proven hard to effect with light
beams.
