This is a type of cloud formation seen by storm chasers and storm spotters in thunderstorms which identifies the boundary between warm inflow air from cool outflow air. This cloud band is usually located on the east side of the main storm updraft and usually stretches to the east or northeast. By following the beaver tail formation into the storm's updraft, one can usually determine roughly where a tornado may form.
