First generation automata speech.
Beep is usually a pure tone, between 100 and 500hz; often constructed with a square wave for expediency's sake. In Old automata, beeps were generated with a mechanical bell.

BEEP is also a new Internet Draft, called Blocks Extensible Exchange Protocol, described in RFC 3080.

Syn. feep. This term is techspeak under MS-DOS and OS/2, and seems to be generally preferred among micro hobbyists.
