downvote a
node because you
disagree with the
opinion expressed in it. This occurs on a sadly regular basis.
Well-written and
thought-provoking nodes can often suffer simply because the voter disagrees with the author's point of view.
It should be noted that some nodes on
controversial issues deserve to de downvoted. For example, if the
write-up says little other than "(Politician) SUCKS @$$!!!! I HATE (Politician)!!" then
nobody is going to cry when it is
nuked.
On the other hand, a node which contains a perfectly valid
defense, such as "I dislike (Politician) for a number of reasons, including X, Y, and Z. "
etc, should not be downvoted, no matter how
repugnant you may find the opinion expressed.
A call to action:
Fight back against censure-voting! Vote for all well thought out nodes, even if they are completely wrong. Support intelligent discussion.
