A television production device used to lay characters fonts over video. Started in the late fifties using a lighted drum on which you would attach black carbon paper with the characters removed to allow light pass through them into a camera mounted outside the drum. The lighted drum would rotate allowing a credit roll. These were later replaced by solid state devices designed for television use. Now most are built around a computer. Prices range from hundreds to thousands of dollars depending on quality.
