One who excels at chess to the point at which the only acceptable competition includes other masters. Said masters include flesh-and-blood entities as well as those defined by silicon and binary.

These silicon and binary versions are generally sneered at by the flesh-and-blood versions because their algorithms that define the decisions they make are merely game trees with heuristics applied. There is no real "thinking" that goes on.

But is there? What is different about the interaction of neurons in the human brain other than an perceived abstraction placed upon the experience?

Examples include:
  • Deep Blue
  • Bobby Fischer
  • Kasparov
