A common graphical abstraction of two-dimensional Algebraic concepts, represented by a grid of coordinates. Every point on the grid can be expressed by the pair (x,y), corresponding to its distance from the axes or the origin.

A coordinate plane may also exist in mathematical representations of more than two dimensions. In a representation of three dimensions, for example, there are coordinate planes for each combination of axes: x-y, x-z, and y-z.
