A technique of still and motion photography that permits all distance planes to remain clearly in focus, from close-ups on to infinity. It requires a wide-angle lens to photograph.

Deep focus photography is a very theatrical technique that allows a filmmaker or photographer to compose shots in depth and lets the viewer evaluate the importance or unimportance of each element in the frame, from the close-up to the medium shot to the long shot.

Orson Welles' "Citizen Kane" has a number of excellent examples of deep focus photography -- let that be your excuse if you haven't seen it yet.
