A doof is a rave, otherwise known as techno party or dance party. The name comes from the sound of a 4/4 techno beat. I never heard this term used before about 1994. A crew called DCP put on a party simply called "doof" at a warehouse in Brunswick (Victoria, Australia). The music that was big at that time was Gabba and hardcore. If you are familiar with these genres, you know the sound -

"doof, doof, doof, doof-doof
doof, doof, doof, doof-doof
doof, doof, doof, doof-doof
doof, doof, doof, doof-doof
doof, doof, doof, doof-doof
doof, doof, doof, doof-doof
"

Now, I'm not sure where the term actually originated, but after that party, the label stuck. We used to just call the parties "raves" until then. I have noticed that doof is more likely to refer to an outdoor party, while "rave" usually refers to a party in the city. An Australian species is the bush doof, which is truly something to behold. Go off. Go doofing. do it doof doof, go do it do it do it, yeeaaah, bwoouy.

Actually, the word is German slang and simply means stupid/Braindead. I recently saw this great German slogan: "Doof aber lustig". ("Braindead, but funny" - but could also mean "Braindead, but horny).

Yes, it is a German word.

Its origins are from a medieval term, meaning "deaf". "Doof" in german nowadays refers to stupid, boring people'/things/tasks.
