A sub genre of reggae which began in the late 70s in England with Linton Kwesi Johnson and in Jamaica with Oku Onuora and, later, Mutabaruka. It has precedents in the toasting of sound system DJs like U-roy, I-roy, and (the rumblings of) Prince Far-I.
