emeth

Hebrew for "truth", this is the word engraved on the forehead of the famous golem which laid waste to 16th-century Prague before its creating rabbi (who had forgotten to turn it off for the Sabbath) erased the first letter, leaving behind "meth," meaning "he is dead," which succeeded in removing the animating force from the construction and leaving it as a lump of inert clay.

"Emeth", spelled אמת, happens to begin and end with the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet.

Because it also means truth, this was seen to be theologically significant, similar to the Christian symbolism of Alpha and Omega from the Greek alphabet but more meaningful. Truth was said to be the seal of God.
