A common, benign breast lump is a fibroadenoma. Fibroadenomas occur most commonly in women between the ages of 16-30, are usually between 1-2 cm in diameter, and have a smooth, moveable, marble-like feel.

Typical treatment for fibroadenoma is removal in a surgical procedure using a local anesthetic and IV conscious sedation, called an excisional biopsy. Most cases of fibroadenoma do not reoccur, and do not indicate a predisposition to breast cancer.
