After the amazing success of the
Wonderbra and the
Victoria Secret's The Miracle Bra, designers responded by putting push up bras in everything, from swimsuits to evening gowns. This created a new category of figure engineering clothing. From girdle-like body suits, to ass-bras built into normal clothes.
In 1994
Mirabella declared the trend evidence of "a new take on femininity, in which a woman is the master", where she is not a servant to her clothes. A new idea of women's lib, involves wearing a
corset. Corsets have only disapeared from everyday women's wear in the 20th century, we are already back there.
To wear a corset, or push-up bra is one thing, for it to be a part of everyday clothes is another.
