It is interesting that goof is/was American underworld slang for a marijuana user.
The word Goofed is usually pronounced with a shorter vowel sound than “Goof” meaning silly mistake. This makes it sound like the impact off a great padded fist knocking you silly, or a soft landing on a waterbed.
