A chess variant by Christian Freeling, played on a 10x10 board. It introduces two "fairy" pieces, the Marshall and Cardinal (which combine the abilities of the knight and rook, and bishop and knight respectively) into standard play and doesn't place the king and queen in the center of the board in the original array. It also puts rooks alone on a seperate rank, behind the other pieces. This makes for a more diverse game and much more open play.
