Hands free is a phrase describing a human process that does not require the use of hands. It usually describes a newish process that can replaces the older way of doing things that did require the use of hands.

A foot-pedal jig for pushing material into a saw without endangering the hands is one example of a hands free innovation.

Hands-free is sometimes hyphenated and sometimes not.
