The science or discipline of creating force feedback devices. The most recognizable application of this is the force-feedback joystick from Microsoft that will offer resistance to your hand when you try to run your space marine through muck, or twist as you try to do barrel rolls in your F-16. This is done by mounting brushed electric motors on the X and Y axes of the joystick.

Grown-ups can use haptic devices for telerobotic applications. By mounting a few strain gauges on your robotic arm, you can vastly improve the usability of your space station assembler. Surgeons could use haptic interfaces as force-dividers, allowing them to reliably perform delicate procedures that an unenhanced human could easily botch.
