Things I want displayed on my lime green retinas as I traverse life:

A heads-up display generally refers to a device for displaying information designed such that it doesn't require looking away from the task at hand or obstructing your useful field of vision.
A good example would be the monocular eyepieces that are popular with users of wearable computers. Another example would be the night vision that the top of the line Cadillacs will project faintly onto the inside of the windshield so that from the driver's point of view it's overlayed with what can be directly seen out of the windshield.
