While not explicity referred to in Chinese, Buddhist, or occult literature, nor the writings of St. Catherine of Genoa which also refers to a thousand hells, it is conceivable that a sinner or wrongdoer after death could be tormented by small crisp triangles of toasted white bread, while being forced to learn the etiquette of wedding toasts. Alternatively, this could refer to the deities Tenkeisei or Hejika, who dip evil spirits in a vinegary sauce before biting off their heads. In this case, the evil doer is the toast point.
