A type of hair style which has been curled or teased above the wearer's head, and held in place with so much hairspray that it does not move and looks as if it would protect the wearer from having a heavy weight dropped on her/his head.

This node inspired by a documentary which showed political candidates of the late 1960s/early 1970s -- all their wives had helmet hair.

A more extreme case of hat hair. Helmet hair is a condition where a person's cranial hair appears severly matted to the point where you can make out the contour of the their skull. The hair is usually oily or soaked in sweat. There is no adverse effects to helmet hair other than general repulsion by other human beings.

The cure for helmet hair is a highly technical procedure that most people can learn at home. Most medical circles refer to this procedure as "wet, lather, rinse, repeat".

Many studies have been done on the cause of this condition, but the results are inconclusive. However, the condition seems to be related to playing (U.S.)football, hockey, or riding motorcycles.
