Monikers on freight cars which garnered the name because they are commonly done with a oil based marker called a Mean Streak. These markings are often confused with graffiti by outsiders, but both hobos and graffiti writers acknowledge a clear distinction between the two (though there is a growing crossover between the sub cultures). Some hobos are very prolific, having rendered several thousand of their simple and durable signatures. Prominent examples are Waterbed Lou, The Rambler, Herbie, Colossus of Roads, and The Solo Artist.
