Your tongue is a very cool thing. It's got plenty of musclely goodness. The top-most, visible muscle in your tongue is the Superior Longitudinal. The middle part is the Transverse and Vertical Elements. The bottom part is the Inferior longitudinal. These all work together to change the shape of your tongue and aid eating (mastication, talking, swallowing, and whatever else a tongue could be used for.
