Printing Protocol, a standard for sending data to
printers over a TCP/IP network. It is based on the
HTTP protocol.
Version 1.0 (released in April 1999) is described in RFCs 2565 and 2566, and version 1.1 (released in September 2000) in 2910 and 2911. It is now a Proposed Standard.
One system that implements IPP in *NIX is CUPS.
