Isoflavones are a class of phytochemicals, meaning they are only found in plants. They also fall into the category of phytoestrogen, a plant based chemical with a similar chemical structure to human estrogen, only weaker.

Isoflavones are found in soy, chick peas and other legumes and have been shown to reduce arterial plaque and possibly reduce risk of breast cancer.

The specific isoflavone genistein was shown to slow prostate cancer and even kill prostate cancer cells.
