The supposed "lie of omission" is the act of not telling all/any of the truth/facts you know. The premise is, that to be honest, you must tell "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth."

In my mind, this is a symptom of confusing or conflating honesty and forthrightness. See also: Honesty is not the best policy. It is the only policy.
