One of the best-known locations around MIT. Located off of 77 Massachusetts Ave, the main entrance to Main Campus, Lobby 7 is a three-story-tall open space with
stone pillars and a marble floor. It is a popular target for hacks, ranging from giant spider webs complete with five-foot-long black widows on Halloween to lit Christmas trees hanging from the ceiling, and it was the site of the locally-famous Cathedral of Our Lady of the All-Night Tool. There is an inscription around the upper story reading, I believe, "Dedicated to the Advancement of Science and Technology and its Application to Industry, the Arts, Agriculture and Commerce". The last line of this was changed once by hackers to instead read "Entertainment and Hacking" -- perhaps a far more accurate statement of the Institute's purpose.
