A
song, generally sung to, or about, a particular person the
writer feels a significant
affection towards.
There are several reasons one might write a love song. These can include:
To let the object of your affections know how you feel
To reinforce the sentiment with your current partner/love interest (see: The Cure's "Lovesong")
In an attempt to save a crumbling relationship (see: Sebadoh's "Soul and Fire")
As a post-mortem of a failed relationship (see: Elliott Smith's "Say Yes")
and not forgetting:
to make lots of money (see: The Beautiful South's "Song for Whoever")
