There are several legends involving machine translation. Typically a phrase is translated from English to some other language, and back to English, and hilarity ensues.

For example, take the phrase "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak". Legend has it that if you let a machine translate this to Russian then translate that result back to English, you'll get: "The vodka is good, but the meat is rotten"

Another example: "Out of sight, out of mind" to Russian and back again via MT supposedly yields: "Blind idiot".
