When a piece of technology, be it software, hardware or consumer electronics gear, sets a hacker's soul on fire. Its so complete, so open with wonderful possibility that it makes him or her want to acquire it, alter it, ultimately make it their own. But, the thing is, he or she doesn't know enough to change it, but this is not a barrier. This is the essence of a hacker's motivation, it sets him/her ablaze with anticipation. Anticipation for the moment when they receive the object in question. Anticipation for the hours of testing and retesting in an effort to learn. Anticipation for the day when they have so fully exploited their icon of joy that they efface it, and it is no more. And from that wonderful experience, he/she becomes better than they were before.
