The marching season in Northern Ireland refers to the summer months, during which a great number of parades are held by the Orange Order and related institutions. The focus of the season is the Twelfth of July, on which the Battle of the Boyne is commemorated. Generally a tense time in the province, as many of the parades are contentious and lead to confrontation and violence.
