The central
room in a
Mycenaean palace. It is a large,
symmetrical square room with a
hearth in the center framed by four
columns.
Meaning "great hall", it served as the main gathering room in the Mycenaean palace.
Due to the spacious, symmetrical design with the large columns, the megaron is identified as the predecessor of the Doric temples of Greece.
