Mesopaganism or Meso-Paganism is a name for either:
- those religions founded as attempts to revive, recreate, or continue what their founders thought were Paleopagan ways, but which were influenced by monotheism and dualism, or
- those pagan religions/fraternal groups founded during the looking into such beliefs from the late Renaissance to the middle of the 20th Century.
Some example Mesopagan groups would be the Rosicrucianism, Theosophy, the fraternal types of Druidism, Voodoo, Santeria, Sikhism, monotheism-influenced Hinduism, probably famtrads, and even possibly Freemasonry and British Traditional Wicca. Some of these practices are far stronger than others, though the number of adherents is probably not huge.
Isaac Bonewits likes to point out that some Mesopagan belief systems may be homophobic, racist, sexist, etc. This is because, in his eyes, Neopaganism lacks these things. Naturally, this doesn't stop Mesopagan from being tolerant or Neopagans from being intolerant.
