A paradoxically named
institution from
George Orwell's 1984. The Ministry of Love was an
enigma to
Winston, until he himself was accused of comitting
thoughtcrime, and had to endure penance inside the Ministry. Thus, we find out that its primary purpose is to seek out individuals in
Oceania who secretly harbored thoughts of rebellion against
Big Brother and
the establishment.
The thought criminals (who are all caught in the end) are taken here and forced, by brainwashing, to change their beliefs. Once they are fully assimilated in the horde of sheep, they are killed. Shudder.
