monocot

A flowering plant that has a single seed leaf (cotyledon), flower parts in sets of threes, and parallel veins in the leaves. These plants tend to have one large central root with smaller offshoots. Examples include palm trees, corn, and carrot plants. Opposite of dicot. Not to be confused with Epcot.
