A popular menu item at Australian school canteens and tuck shops.

A moon crater is simply a small lidless shortcrust pie or tart shell filled with savoury mince. Moon craters have a much higher novelty value than, say, a sausage roll or a Vegemite sandwich, and usually indicate that the possessing child's parents are rather well off.
