Cloud shaped like a mushroom. May form in a nuclear, thermonuclear or large conventional explosion. In terms of physical science, a very large chunk of hot gas rises through the atmosphere by the process of convection until its density matches the air around it, whereupon it cools and reverses direction, all the while expanding in breadth. This two stage process forms a classic mushroom shape.
