A neighbor group is an
embellishment of a single pitch.
This pitch becomes the focus of the
melody (if it is not already) and the actual embellishment occurs by the sounding of the focus
pitch's upper and lower
neighbor in succession. These may be sounded in either order.
The first neighbor is approched by a
step and left by a leap, while the second one is approached by a
leap and resolved by a step.
