Japanese kotowaza equating to "pearls before swine". It literally means "a gold coin for a cat", which means that whatever it is is useless. A gold coin would be useful to a person, but not to a cat, because the cat doesn't buy anything.

Neko ni koban is also the Japanese name for Meowth's Payday attack, which steals money. The comedy of the name of the attack is lost in the translation.
