In economics, the total value of the annual output of goods and services produced within the borders of a nation (gross domestic product) minus the value of capital goods used up in the production of this output (depreciation). Thus, it is the amount of output that could be consumed within the borders of a nation without reducing the stock of economic capital and therewith the future production possibilities of the nation.

Compare: net national product
