Another word for attempted suicide or failed suicide, this describes any or many of self-destructive acts that do not kill the person doing them. These acts include cutting oneself slightly, or swallowing an entire bottle of pills which could kill. Parasuicide is prominent in youths who are confused and extremely emotionally distressed. The rate of female parasuicide is higher than males at any age.
